What Is a Psychiatric Evaluation?
A psychiatric evaluation is a thorough assessment by a licensed psychiatric provider. The goal is to understand your symptoms, arrive at an accurate diagnosis, and build a treatment plan that fits your life. It is different from a counseling session -- we are looking at the medical side of mental health.
A lot of people go years dealing with symptoms without getting a clear diagnosis. They know something is off but cannot put a name to it. A psychiatric evaluation gives you that clarity.
What We Evaluate
We assess for a range of conditions including ADHD, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, PMDD, insomnia, and more. We also look at medications you are taking, other medical conditions, and your family history -- because all of these things affect the picture.
It is not unusual for someone to come in thinking they have one condition and discover they have something different or something additional. Getting the diagnosis right is the foundation of effective treatment.
What to Expect
Your first visit is about 45-60 minutes. We will ask questions about your symptoms, when they started, how they affect your daily life, and what you have tried before. Bring a photo ID, insurance card, and a list of current medications. Previous records from other providers are helpful but not required.
By the end of your visit, you will have a clear diagnosis or a plan to confirm one, a treatment recommendation, and a next step.
Insurance and Payment
Psychiatric evaluations are covered by most insurance plans. We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and AHCCCS. Cash pay is available.
When to Schedule
If you have been feeling off -- struggling with focus, mood, sleep, energy, or motivation -- and you do not know why, a psychiatric evaluation is the right place to start. If your primary care provider prescribed something that is not working, a psychiatric specialist can take a deeper look. You do not need a referral to see us.
