What is Medication Management?
Medication management is the ongoing process of making sure your psychiatric medication is actually doing its job. That means regular check-ins with your provider, honest conversations about how you feel, dose adjustments when something is off, and refills without the hassle.
A lot of people get started on a medication and then lose touch with follow-up care. Or they see a primary care doctor who is doing their best but does not specialize in psychiatric medications. That is how people end up on the wrong dose, dealing with avoidable side effects, or stuck on a medication that stopped working a year ago.
How It Works
After your initial evaluation, follow-up visits are typically 15-30 minutes. We check in on how the medication is working, whether there are side effects, and what has changed since your last visit. If something needs adjusting, we adjust it -- whether that means changing the dose, switching medications, or adding something new.
For stable patients, visits are usually every 1-3 months. Patients on controlled substances like ADHD stimulants typically need monthly check-ins.
Common Medications We Manage
We prescribe and manage the full range of psychiatric medications. SSRIs like Zoloft and Lexapro for depression and anxiety. Stimulants like Adderall and Vyvanse for ADHD. Mood stabilizers like Lamictal and lithium for bipolar disorder. Buspirone and hydroxyzine for anxiety. SNRIs like Effexor and Cymbalta. And many others depending on what your situation calls for.
Insurance and Payment
Medication management visits are covered by most insurance plans. We accept Blue Cross NC, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and NC Medicaid. Cash pay options are available.
When to Consider a Change
If your current provider is hard to reach. If refills take too long. If your appointments feel rushed. If nobody has asked in a while whether your medication is still the right fit -- it might be time for a fresh set of eyes. We keep things simple, responsive, and focused on what is actually working for you.
