What Is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder affects roughly 4-5% of adults in the United States. It is not something you outgrow. Many people were never diagnosed as children -- especially women, who often present with inattentive symptoms rather than hyperactivity. ADHD makes it harder to focus, organize tasks, manage time, and follow through on plans. It can look like procrastination, forgetfulness, restlessness, or impulsive decisions that derail your week.
Adults with untreated ADHD often struggle at work, in relationships, and with self-esteem. You might feel like you are constantly behind or that you should be able to "just focus" when everyone else seems to manage fine. That gap between effort and results is exhausting.
How We Treat ADHD
Treatment starts with a comprehensive evaluation. We review your symptoms, history, and daily functioning to confirm the diagnosis and rule out conditions that mimic ADHD, like anxiety or sleep disorders.
If medication is appropriate, we prescribe from the full range of ADHD treatments. Stimulant medications like Adderall, Vyvanse, and Concerta are first-line options for most adults. For patients who cannot tolerate stimulants or prefer a non-stimulant approach, Strattera (atomoxetine) and Wellbutrin are effective alternatives. We adjust dosage carefully over follow-up visits to find the right balance between symptom control and side effects.
What to Expect at Your First Visit
Your first appointment is about 45-60 minutes. Bring any past medical records or previous ADHD assessments if you have them -- but do not worry if you do not. We will ask about your symptoms, when they started, how they affect your daily life, and what you have tried before. If the evaluation supports an ADHD diagnosis, we can discuss medication options and often start treatment the same day.
Insurance and Payment
We accept SelectHealth, PEHP, Regence BlueCross BlueShield, Molina, Utah Medicaid, and most major plans. Cash-pay options are available if you do not have insurance. Contact us to verify your specific coverage before your first visit.
When to Seek Help
If you regularly lose track of tasks at work, miss deadlines despite trying hard, feel restless during meetings, zone out during conversations, or start projects you never finish -- these are signs worth exploring. ADHD is not a character flaw. It is a brain-based condition with effective treatments. Getting evaluated is the first step toward working with your brain instead of fighting it.
