What Is GeneSight Testing?
GeneSight is a pharmacogenomic test. It looks at your DNA to see how your body processes psychiatric medications. Simple cheek swab. No blood draw. Results in about a week.
The test covers antidepressants, antipsychotics, stimulants, and mood stabilizers. It shows which drugs are likely to work, which need dose adjustments, and which your body may not process well.
How GeneSight Helps
If you have tried two or more medications without results, GeneSight can explain why. Some people metabolize medication too fast -- it never reaches the right level. Others metabolize too slowly and get bad side effects at standard doses. GeneSight takes the guesswork out.
What to Expect
The test takes about 30 seconds during a regular appointment. Results come back in 5-7 business days. We review them with you and adjust treatment.
Insurance and Payment
GeneSight is covered by many plans including Medicare and some Medicaid plans. Most patients pay $330 or less out of pocket. Financial assistance is available.
When to Consider GeneSight
If nothing has worked right -- either no effect or too many side effects -- GeneSight is worth doing. Ask about it at your appointment.
