Idaho Falls is the biggest city in eastern Idaho. That sounds like an advantage. For mental health care, it is the opposite. When one city anchors a region this large and this spread out, everybody for a hundred miles calls the same short list of providers. The list fills up. The wait gets long.
People here are used to it. You call. Someone tells you the first opening is in three months. You hang up and decide to tough it out. Another season goes by and nothing changes.

Care That Stays Between You and Your Provider
A lot of people in this town work at the Idaho National Laboratory or for the companies that support it. Engineers. Scientists. Technicians. Some of that work is sensitive. And a lot of people in those jobs will not pick up the phone about anxiety or ADHD because they are worried about who might find out.
Here is where we stand. We do not contact your employer, your supervisor, or your program about your care. Your record is protected health information and we treat it that way. The only exceptions are the ones the law requires of every practice, like billing your insurance and the rare situations where a law compels disclosure.
If you hold a clearance, your own reporting duties to your security office are separate from anything we do. Ask your security officer about those.
Doing nothing is not the careful choice. Sleeping four hours a night and white-knuckling your way through a shift is not the careful choice. Getting checked out is.
What We Treat
We see adults and teens 15 and older. The most common reasons people come to us here are ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, insomnia, and PMDD.
This is a psychiatry practice. We evaluate, we diagnose, and we manage medication. If you have already tried three or four medications and none of them stuck, ask us about GeneSight. It is a cheek swab. It shows how your body breaks down common psychiatric medications, so your provider works from real data instead of guesswork. We also do psychiatric evaluations and Emotional Support Animal letters for patients who qualify.
Your First Appointment
Plan on 45 to 60 minutes. Your provider will ask what is going on, how long it has been going on, what you have already tried, and what did not work. Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and a list of everything you take now. Old records help if you have them.
Your provider will walk you through what they are seeing and what the next step is. If medication is the right call, your licensed psychiatric provider can start it that day and send it to your pharmacy before you walk out. You are not coming back in six weeks just to hear an opinion.
People Drive In From All Over Eastern Idaho
Idaho Falls is where this whole region comes for what it cannot get closer to home. We see patients from Ammon, Ucon, Iona, Shelley, Rigby, Rexburg, Blackfoot, Arco, and the small towns strung along the Snake River Plain. Some come over from the Teton basin, from Driggs and Victor and the ranch country on the far side of the pass.
If you live an hour out, we get it. Tell us where you are driving from and we will build your follow-up schedule around that drive instead of pretending it does not exist.
Students and Young Adults
BYU-Idaho is up in Rexburg. Idaho State University is down in Pocatello. The University of Idaho runs a research campus tied to the Lab. We see students from all of them. A lot of young adults get to college and find out the tricks that carried them through high school have stopped working.
If your grades are sliding and effort is not the problem, that is worth checking out. ADHD that nobody caught in high school is one of the most common things we find in this age group.
Teens 15 and Older
We start seeing patients at age 15. Parents usually call when the school starts calling them, when grades fall off a cliff, or when a teen who used to be social stops leaving the bedroom. You do not need a referral. You can book straight in. A parent or guardian comes to the first appointment for any patient under 18.
Insurance and Cost
We take Blue Cross of Idaho, Regence, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Idaho Medicaid. We bill your carrier directly. What you owe depends on your plan and where you are on your deductible, so ask us before you book and we will check it. No insurance? Cash pay is available and you get the price up front.
