What Is an ESA Letter?
An Emotional Support Animal letter is a document from a licensed mental health professional stating you have a qualifying condition and that an ESA is part of your treatment plan. Under federal law, it can protect your right to live with your animal in housing that restricts pets.
An ESA is not a service animal. Service animals perform trained tasks. Emotional support animals provide stability through companionship.
How We Evaluate ESA Requests
We do a real evaluation. No forms-only mills. We assess your mental health history, current symptoms, and whether an ESA would meaningfully help your condition. Common qualifying conditions include anxiety, depression, PTSD, and panic disorder.
If you qualify, we can often provide the letter at your first visit. If you do not qualify, we tell you and discuss other options.
What to Expect
Your evaluation is about 45 minutes. Bring a photo ID and insurance card.
Insurance and Payment
The psychiatric evaluation is typically covered by insurance. We accept Blue Cross of Idaho, Regence, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Idaho Medicaid. The ESA letter may have an additional fee. Cash pay is available.
When to Get an ESA Letter
If your animal genuinely helps you manage a mental health condition and your landlord requires documentation, a legitimate letter from a licensed provider is the right path.
