Built by transplants

The Valley grows by tens of thousands of people every year. They come for jobs at Intel in Chandler, USAA and State Farm, Banner and HonorHealth, ASU, and a long list of startups. Many arrive without family nearby and start building a life from zero. That is exciting. It is also a recipe for anxiety when work pressure piles up and nobody close is there to talk it through.

If worry is costing you sleep, focus, or friendships, it is time to treat it like what it is: a medical condition with real solutions.

Signs to take seriously

  • Constant worry about career, money, or the future
  • Muscle tension, headaches, or a racing heart
  • Restless nights, even with the AC cranked
  • Avoiding social events because you feel on edge
  • Panic attacks in traffic on the 101 or the I-10
  • Feeling on alert all the time and unable to unwind

Heat that tests everyone

Phoenix summers are no joke. In 2024 the city went more than 100 days in a row at or above 100 degrees. Extreme heat keeps people indoors for months, breaks up routines, and messes with sleep. Dehydration can also cause a pounding heart and dizziness that feel exactly like panic. During monsoon season, dust storms and power outages add another layer of stress. We take the heat seriously when sorting out what is anxiety and what is your body coping with the desert.

Three offices, one plan

We see patients at 2 N Central Ave in downtown Phoenix, 7150 E Camelback Rd in Scottsdale, and 2266 S Dobson Rd in Mesa. That covers people from Arcadia, the Biltmore, Ahwatukee, Old Town and North Scottsdale, Tempe, and the East Valley.

Fast, focused assessment

We will dig into your symptoms, work, sleep, caffeine, alcohol, and cannabis use, plus any pre-workouts or supplements, since some are packed with stimulants. The GAD-7 gives us a baseline score. We also rule out medical causes. If you want the full picture, book a psychiatric evaluation.

Treatment that gets results

The go-to medicines for anxiety are daily SSRIs like escitalopram or sertraline and SNRIs like venlafaxine XR. They are not addictive. Expect gradual improvement, with the full effect in about six to eight weeks. A different daily option is buspirone. Propranolol can help with predictable situations like a big pitch. We keep benzodiazepines to a minimum because of dependence risk.

We set targets you care about — sleeping through the night, getting through a presentation, going out with friends — and track them.

OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder means intrusive, unwanted thoughts plus rituals you feel driven to do, like checking, cleaning, counting, or seeking reassurance. In competitive careers it can look like reworking the same task over and over. It is a real condition, not a quirk, and SSRIs at higher doses help, usually over two to three months.

Spring training and social pressure

From Cactus League games to pool parties, Valley social life is busy. For people with social anxiety, that can feel more like a test than a good time. Treatment can help you enjoy the city you moved here for.

Data for tough cases

Tried a few medicines with no luck? A GeneSight swab maps how your genes process many common options.

The first 90 days

Here is what a typical start looks like. At your first visit, we map your symptoms and choose a medicine. Around weeks two to four, we check side effects and adjust the dose. By weeks six to eight, most people feel a clear difference. After that, visits space out and we keep fine-tuning until you are where you want to be.

Long commutes and road stress

The Valley is spread out, and many people spend an hour or more a day on the 101, the 202, or the I-17. Traffic jams and aggressive drivers can be a daily trigger for panic. As anxiety comes down, many patients tell us the commute becomes just a commute again.

Anxiety FAQs

Where are your Phoenix-area offices?
We have offices at 2 N Central Ave in Phoenix, 7150 E Camelback Rd in Scottsdale, and 2266 S Dobson Rd in Mesa.
Is it the heat or is it anxiety?
Sometimes both. Dehydration can cause a pounding heart and dizziness, and months indoors can raise stress. Your provider will help you sort out which is which.
I moved here alone. Can that cause anxiety?
Starting over without a support system is a common trigger for anxiety. Tell your provider so it can be part of your plan.
Do pre-workout supplements affect anxiety?
Many contain high doses of caffeine or other stimulants that can trigger anxiety and panic. Bring the label to your visit.
Are anxiety medications addictive?
The most common daily anxiety medicines are not addictive. Your provider uses habit-forming sedatives carefully, if at all.
